The Wonder of It All is a podcast about the blessings and curses of success.
Sean Nelson, former lead singer of Harvey Danger, interviews artists (musicians, filmmakers, TV creators, actors, writers, etc.) about the ways their lives and careers were shaped by a conspicuous breakthrough, and how the experience changed their lives and careers for good and ill.
The conversations aim for candid discussion of the way guests reacted to the opportunities and limitations afforded by their successes, and how—and if—they’ve made peace with the long shadow cast by good fortune.
Sean Nelson is a writer, musician, and actor. And now, increasingly, a podcaster.
He is the lead singer / songwriter for '90s Seattle indie pop band Harvey Danger, and also recorded and performed with Robyn Hitchcock, Death Cab for Cutie, and many others. His film career began with the lead role in the late Lynn Shelton's second feature, My Effortless Brilliance, which he co-wrote.
Nelson worked intermittently as a journalist, primarily covering the arts, and interviewed hundreds of musicians, writers, and filmmakers. His book about Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark was published by Continuum Books' 33⅓ series in 2006. He also worked as a semi-regular radio host on Seattle's beloved KEXP for 18 years.
He lives in Nashville with his dogs.
